APTA Joins
Coalition Opposing Efforts to Limit Patient Choice of Providers
APTA has joined the American Nurses Association in a broad-based coalition
of 24 organizations to urge the American Medical Association and other
physician groups to drop efforts aimed at limiting the ability of patients
to receive care from physical therapists and other qualified licensed
health care professionals. Representing more than 3 million licensed
providers, the Coalition For Patients’ Rights (CPR) issued a
press release
and
a statement responding to the AMA’s formation of a partnership to study
the work and qualification of “allied health professionals” particularly in
rural and underserved areas and develop strategies and resources for opposing
scope
of practice legislation. The Coalition is launching a new Web site; APTA
will keep component leaders and Federal Affairs Liaisons informed about
ongoing activities.
